Easy Like Sunday Morning Cinnamon Rolls – I have to confess.  I am not a baker.  However, I do love to bake.  I love to make simple baked goods.  That means that they either have to have minimal  ingredients that are just all dumped into a bowl and mixed together.

Or, the recipe has to be “Scott” proof, aka “fool” proof.

This past Sunday morning, I made something that fit the bill and my kids favorite, delicious cinnamon rolls.  There was no complicated dough recipe and best of all it goes together easily.  Thus, I bring to you a recipe for fool proof cinnamon rolls. Or, Easy Like Sunday Morning Cinnamon Rolls.

Easy Like Sunday Morning Cinnamon Rolls

As you all know by now, I like to shop our pantry to make our meals.   I also like things to be delicious and simple.  Let’s face it, who has time for complicated, confusing recipes?  To quote a very popular internet viral saying, “I ain’t got time for that!”

So, I find ways to take shortcuts and make recipes less complicated.  A good example of this is frozen bread dough.  We have all walked past the frozen cases in the grocery store and seen these frozen tubes.  I love to use them for what their intended and make a fresh loaf of bread when I am making soup.

But, I also think outside of the box and use it as pizza dough, dough for dinner rolls, and yes, for these Easy Like Sunday Morning Cinnamon Rolls.

By using the frozen bread dough, it takes all of the guess work out of what type of yeast to use.

Or whether or not the dough will rise properly.  It allows you to have that extra cup of coffee and read the Sunday paper.

Because the dough is frozen, there is a little planning ahead involved.  It does take about 2 hours to thaw and rise in your oven the morning of.   Unless, you let the dough rise in your refrigerator the night before.

But, I am never that prepared.  Once the dough is ready,  you roll out the dough and add your cinnamon sugar and butter.  Then there is a second rising, which is about 30 minutes and another 30 minutes for baking in the oven.

However, your patience will be rewarded.  Trust me.

I add a little bit of cinnamon sugar on the bottom of the pan before I add my cinnamon rolls.  I do this to add a little more flavor and texture.  When you take a bite, there is a little crisp chewiness that cant be matched.

So I say, make your house smell incredible and treat your family to these easy, delicious cinnamon rolls.  They will think that you slaved.  But you and I will know that they were Easy like Sunday Morning!  Enjoy. -Scott

Easy Like Sunday Morning Cinnamon Rolls

Start your morning right with these fluffy and delicious cinnamon rolls
Prep: 2 hours 30 minutes
Cook: 30 minutes
Total: 3 hours
Yield: 12 servings


For Cinnamon Rolls

  • 1 Roll of frozen bread dough
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar, can use half granulated sugar and half brown sugar for more gooey rolls
  • 1/2 Tablespoons Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter, soften

For Icing

  • 8 OZ Cream Cheese, soften
  • 1/2 cup butter, soften
  • 2 cups powder sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


  • If the dough is frozen:
  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees and shut off when gets to temperature.
  • In a shallow pan place about 1 quart of boiling water and put pan on the lowest rack in oven.
  • Grease a bowl or a bread pan and place frozen dough into pan.
  • Place in the warm oven and allow to rise for approximately 2 hours. The dough should double in size in this time.
  • Remove from oven and place dough on a floured surface.
  • Roll dough in a rectangle to approximately 9X13.
  • Spread soften butter over the entire dough surface.
  • In a bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon.
  • Take mixture and sprinkle on top of dough and butter.
  • Reserve a little to sprinkle in the cooking pan.
  • Starting from the longest side and roll, forming a long tube.
  • To seal the edge, use a little water on your finger on the edge before you complete your roll.
  • Cut rolls into 12 equal pieces.
  • Grease a 9X13 pa.
  • Sprinkle the reserved cinnamon sugar into the bottom of the pan.
  • Place cinnamon rolls, cut side down into pan. Place 3 in a row.
  • Put pan in a warm spot to rise another 30 minutes or until cinnamon rolls have doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cook cinnamon rolls for approximately 30 minutes or until golden.

For Icing

  • Using a mixer, beat together butter and cream cheese.
  • Once butter and cream cheese are incorporated, mix in powder sugar 1/2 cup at a time, until powder sugar is mixed in and the frosting is not gritty.
  • Mix in vanilla.
  • Frost cinnamon rolls with frosting and enjoy!

  2. I haven’t made cinnamon rolls in forever because– you know, the whole skinny jeans versus Kim K butt syndrome – but I love the ease of this recipe and I think the fam would enjoy something like this on Christmas morning!

    I use the frozen dough for a lot of things too! You’re right, it really does take the guesswork out of the yeast question. Maybe one day I’ll have time to work with yeast doughs from scratch and conquer the ewuations. Meanwhile, I’m all about convenience cooking and letting some one else do the yeasting!
