How to Make a Roast

We show you how to make many roasted meat recipes. There are a few important steps to know when knowing how to make a roast.

  • Start by preheating your oven for at least 20 minutes. Then, use a paper towel and pat the roast dry.
  • Roast it in a wide pan with an internal rack. This will also help meet it from drying out. If you don’t have a rack, use a layer of carrots, celery, and/or onion.
  • Never put the meat directly in the oven, from the refrigerator. Allow it to sit for at least an hour on your countertop. You don’t want to put a cold hunk of meat or poultry in a hot oven.Apply a layer of butter or olive oil on your roast to help keep it from drying out.
  • Let your roasted meat or chicken sit for at least 5 minutes before cutting. This allows the meat fibers to reabsorb the juices.

Food Safety Note

Never let chicken or poultry sit at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
